Federal contractor reviewing acquisition compliance documents

Understand the federal acquisition regulation transition, agency deviations, SAM registration, and cybersecurity obligations that shape government contractor compliance.

Understand the FAR overhaul transition

The Revolutionary FAR Overhaul is being implemented through model deviation text and agency-specific class deviations while formal rulemaking remains a later step. The model text is not automatically applicable to an agency until that agency issues its deviation. Federal contractors should track the rules and clauses that apply to the specific agency and procurement.

Check the actual procurement documents

For each opportunity, review the current solicitation, incorporated clauses, agency supplements, and any relevant agency deviation. Do not rely on a generic summary of the FAR or assume every agency has adopted identical text at the same time.

Maintain registration and records

Confirm that SAM registration and representations remain accurate and active where required. Assign owners for renewal dates, contract records, subcontractor documentation, and required reporting.

Make cybersecurity obligations specific

Identify the information involved, the contract clauses and security standards that apply, and the evidence the customer expects. Have qualified security staff map requirements to controls, responsibilities, incident processes, and supplier flow-downs.

Create a repeatable monitoring rhythm

Track changes from official acquisition sources, assess their relevance to active bids and contracts, record decisions, and brief responsible staff. When language is ambiguous, seek guidance from the contracting officer or qualified counsel.
